Primary School Assembly Bangers: A Festive Extravaganza
A Musical Journey from School Halls to Glastonbury Stage
It's not every day you come across a performer who can captivate both Glastonbury crowds and Songs of Praise viewers, but James B Partridge has done just that. The Dorset-born artist has become an online sensation with his unique school hymn sets, captivating audiences across the nation.
"The love of music was cultivated in the assembly hall," James shares. "We had incredible tunes that we sang together, and they were taught by heart. That's why they've remained with me all these years."
The 34-year-old's new "The Big Christmas Assembly" tour is a delightful blend of retro pop songs and traditional Christmas carols. James, a native of Poole, first showcased these songs in assemblies at Stanley Green in Oakdale.
His musical talents extended beyond the school gates. He sang with his local church choir and the Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus, and his parents, Lyndy and Mark Partridge, recall his exceptional abilities. Mark fondly remembers, "He was a talented singer, and you could hear him from the back pew."
Lyndy adds, "He was a quiet child, but he's incredibly outgoing and extroverted on stage."
James' journey to stardom began with his "Top 10 Primary School Bangers" during lockdown, which gained him a dedicated following. Mark humorously reflects, "We never imagined he'd be performing at the Pavilion soon."
The Pavilion in Bournemouth was one of the stops on James' Winter tour, where audiences were enthralled, joining in with enthusiasm. James describes the experience, "It's emotional singing these tunes, reminiscing about the past and connecting with it in the present."
Mark elaborates, "People long for a sense of community, and James' show offers that. It's like revisiting the communal singing of school assemblies, leaving audiences revitalized."
Lyndy expresses her pride in her son's success, "We're incredibly proud of James. He's achieved so much."
For James, the essence of Christmas lies in connection, community, and tradition, all of which are intertwined with music. "Christmas is about bringing people together, fostering bonds, and creating lasting memories," he reflects. "And music is the perfect companion for these special moments."
