Celtic's transfer dreams might be crumbling once again! Just when it seemed like they were on the verge of securing a new signing, a cruel twist of fate – an injury – could derail the entire deal. This winter transfer window has been a rollercoaster for Celtic, filled with more speculation than solid business. While they've been linked with a dizzying array of players, only a select few have actually materialized. We saw Julian Araujo arrive on loan from Bournemouth, a move that happened while Wilfried Nancy was still at the helm. More recently, Tomas Cvancara was brought in from Borussia Monchengladbach, with the option to make his move permanent for £7 million in the summer.
However, the rumour mill has been churning with many other names, but unfortunately, most of those potential transfers haven't crossed the finish line. Think of players like Kyogo, Jocelin Ta Bi, and Niko Sigur – all names that have been whispered in connection with Celtic, but haven't led to concrete signings.
But here's where it gets interesting... It appears another name is about to be added to that list of nearly-done deals, and this one is particularly significant because Celtic have reportedly already submitted an offer. The player in question is Mohamed Bamba, a striker for FC Lorient. Reports suggest that Celtic have made a loan offer for him.
And this is the part most people miss... Bamba has reportedly suffered an injury, and while the full extent of it isn't yet clear, it could put a serious spanner in the works. According to Le Telegramme, Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni stated, "Mo suffered a knee injury. He received treatment yesterday. He was feeling better, but we preferred to keep him with the physiotherapist in the gym. We do not have more on his fitness."
Now, it's entirely possible that this injury is minor and won't pose a significant obstacle to a potential transfer. However, it's never ideal to bring in a new player who is already nursing a fitness concern.
Here's another point that might raise eyebrows... Bamba's goal-scoring record this season hasn't exactly set the world alight. He's only managed to find the back of the net three times in 17 appearances for Lorient. To put that into perspective, only one of those goals has come in Ligue 1, across 16 games. This isn't the kind of form that Celtic typically seeks, especially after signing Tomas Cvancara, who has also been described as an out-of-form forward.
What do you think? Is an injury to a target striker a deal-breaker for Celtic, or is it just a minor setback? And considering his goal record, is Mohamed Bamba truly the striker Celtic needs right now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below – we'd love to hear your take!
